The AQCBA Framework describes the program goals that support capacity-building in our participating communites.

Identify community needs: the Community Engagement Team will conduct regional, community-specific needs assessment workshops to gather input from community leaders to better understand their knowledge-base related to air quality monitoring and their concerns about air pollutants, sources, and health impacts. This information will be used to develop relevant and effective trainings and to inform air monitor siting.

Expand and strengthen air monitoring network: With input from community leaders and our Technology and Regulation and Policy Teams, the Collaborative will establish a network of over 100 air quality monitors, expanding access to, and accuracy of, local air quality data.

Build capacity in understanding air monitoring data: the Community Engagement Team, with support from the Technology and Regulation and Policy Teams, will conduct regional, community-specific air quality trainings, based on information gathered from the needs assessment workshops. The trainings will improve access to air quality data, build upon baseline knowledge of air pollutants, sources, health impacts, and local regulation and policy.

Foster community action, influence policy, empower across generations: the Community Engagement Team, with support from the Technology and Regulation and Policy Teams, will develop and promote best practices and training modules in community air monitoring derived from our activities. These resources will support community-based activities that expand community reach to benefit future community led air monitoring activities and affect change around protective air quality policy and practice.
